On April 24, 2006, Robertson Allen and I opened the doors at The Cassina Group with a simple, stubborn idea: that real estate in Charleston should feel elevated, consistent, and personal at every step. Twenty years later, that belief is still the through-line for every decision we make.

I don’t take the milestone for granted. A lot of firms come and go in this business. The ones that last tend to share a few traits, and looking back, I can see how each of them quietly shaped what Cassina became.

The decision to stay agent-first

From the beginning, Robertson and I wanted to build a place where Realtors actually wanted to come to work. That meant designing the firm around collaboration instead of internal competition, and it meant trusting that when you invest in your people, the clients feel it. Two decades of in-house transactions across our roster suggest the model holds: the strength of any one client’s experience is really the strength of the whole organization behind it.

Today we have 54 full-time REALTORS®, and the agent-first culture is still the part of the business I am proudest of. It is the reason we can hand a client off seamlessly across neighborhoods, across price points, and across moments in their lives.

The decision to specialize without narrowing

We are known for luxury and historic homes, and rightly so. But the deeper we’ve gone into the high end of the Charleston market, the more we’ve learned that "luxury" is the wrong frame. The right frame is care. The most expensive transactions we’ve handled and the more modest ones get the same preparation, the same discretion, and the same attention to detail. That has, I think, been one of the quiet engines of our growth.

The geography helps. From historic downtown Charleston to Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, the Old Village in Mount Pleasant, and out to The Crescent in West Ashley, Cassina Realtors have built deep roots across markets that each have their own character. That breadth lets us match a client to the right neighborhood, not just the right square footage.

The decision to keep marrying old and new

Twenty years ago, "tech-forward" looked like having a real website. Today it looks like AI-assisted search and visibility tools, drone photography, and content that lives across more surfaces than I can count. We’ve always tried to be early, but never at the expense of the basics: a personal phone call, a thoughtful note, a face-to-face conversation. The technology compounds. The fundamentals don’t change.

What the numbers say

The data tells one version of the story. Year-to-date 2026, we’ve closed $292 million in sales volume. We finished 2025 with more than $624 million in closed transactions, a record for the firm. We’re consistently in the Top 10 of the Charleston Trident MLS, and we hold close to 600 five-star Google reviews. National recognition has followed from RealTrends Verified, Inc. 5000, T3 Sixty Mega 1000, and Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate.

I share the numbers because they matter, but they are not the part I find myself thinking about at this anniversary. The part I think about is the texts and calls. Clients who moved here from out of town and stayed in touch. Sellers who came back to us a decade later for the next chapter. The people who, when a friend asks for a recommendation, send them to us. Referral-and-repeat business is the truest scorecard this industry has, and it is the one I watch most closely.

What stays the same

Charleston is not just a market to me. It is home. My responsibility to it, and to the clients who choose to live here, has not changed in 20 years. The way we honor that responsibility shows up in the same small ways it always has: in how we prepare for a listing, how we represent a buyer, how we behave when no one is watching.

Robertson, our partners, our Realtors, and our clients are the people who built this with us. Twenty years feels like a real milestone, and at the same time, it feels like a good place to start the next decade from. There is still plenty I want us to do.
